Preserving an unusual slice of rural life

In Germany, there are some homes that date back to 1855, but the thing that makes then unique is that they are cave homes. These homes were carved into stone by migrant farmworkers who were in desperate need of housing. Since then Langenstein’s historic cave dwellings are cared for by the Langensteiner Höhlenwohnungen, a registered organization that consists of 10 dedicated members from the area. What a great way to hold onto history!
