the origin of dippin dots ice cream

Here is a really neat video on how dippin dots came into being – and it first started with how to make food for farm animals more efficient. In 1987 microbiologist Curtis Jones, whose specialty was cryogenics, flash froze cattle feed at 350ºF below zero which resulted in small pellets. Curtis also loved making ice cream, so decided to see what would happen to the ice cream if he did the same thing – and voilà – dippin’ dots was born!!
