Leland Melvin’s first career out of college was that of a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions and eventually the Dallas Cowboys. After sustaining an injury and leaving the NFL, Leland decided that now was a great time to become an astronaut. He said that the training he received while in the NFL really helped prepare him for what life would be like, both on his body and working as a team in space with other astronauts to complete mission objectives.
