insight: brad bird on animation

This inspirational video is about writer and director Brad Bird, who has worked on films such as “The Iron Giant”, “The Incredibles”, and “Ratatouille”, and his insight into what animation is. He explains that the constant goal of animation is to “get the audience into the state of feeling how things feel rather than how things are”. He points out how a lot of animations rush to get to the action scenes, but that there is great pleasure to be had in the “sneaking” part; in which he’s right because it leads up to a build-up of suspense, and enriches the world of the film. There is a quote he says halfway through the video that rings true, not just to animation and art, but to all aspects of life – “If you try to over-control the process, you limit the process”.
